Imran Khan Stands Vindicated

The storm has at last been settled.
On Friday the apex court of Pakistan announced its long delayed verdict in the case of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, which was filed by the incumbent govt. seeking his disqualification from the parliament on pretentious charges. The larger bench of the supreme court which was headed by the chief justice of Pakistan, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, cleared Imran Khan of all the charges leveled against him by the govt. and accepted all the documents presented by Imran Khan, proving his money trail for the land he purchased years back in early 2000s.
The time has quite been tumultuous for Pakistani politics ever since the Panama Leaks scandal broke out internationally and was taken as a hot pie by the local media. Long before that, almost everyone in Pakistan knew about Nawaz Sharif's overseas holdings and the "secret resources" [sic] through which the purchase was secured. Successive govt. have been complicit in probe against Nawaz Sharif as those were for most of the time headed by Nawaz himself or his partners in crime the Benazir+Zardari duo.

A thief cannot nab another thief.

Only a little 'pause' came as interruption when Gen. (R) Musharraf staged a coup d'etat and sent Nawaz packing. But he too like all his predecessors could not resist the trappings of power, proving the universally acknowledged maxim true that power corrupts, and too fell victim to the politics of expediency. Musharraf had invasive rancor for Nawaz Sharif and on his own would never let Nawaz Sharif get off the hook but those were tough days for Pakistan as a country. After freezing of all international currency accounts, Nawaz Sharif let the country's economy in complete disarray and almost crippled Pakistan was on the precipice of potential bankruptcy and in no way was able to avoid insolvency thus little prodding by the Saudi royal family in conjunction with Lebanese (late) prime minister Rafiq Hariri, did the magic and saved Nawaz Sharif the day.
But the skies are not favoring always.
Nawaz Sharif's ignominy was no better than the emperor caught with no clothes in public in the wake of "Panama Leaks". The reputation he built around his persona over the long and lengthy years of his rule over Punjab and the center was shattered in one blow. At first, the existence of properties was hastily denied as a damage control arrangement and then reluctantly the ownership of the properties was acknowledged but that put Nawaz Sharif and his family in double quandary. When the ownership of any foreign properties is acknowledged, the source of income has to be revealed or justified.
And here came the crunch.
The statements issues by the different family members, sons, daughter and Nawaz himself in their defence about the means of income and family's cumulative wealth were poles apart from one another which started to shift the ground beneath the feet of ruling family. And if something was left untouched, Nawaz himself made the matters worse for himself by addressing the national assembly where he tried to somehow justify his family business and income, on lousy ground which later proved a laughing stock and was even contradictory to his own statements issued earlier.
First time in the modern history, skies have witnessed the cackle of Qatari letter which was at best a lump joke for the country domestically but a shame internationally.

Can such things happen in any other country of the world?

Imran Khan, the leader of the opposition pounced on the opening and decided to take the matter to its logical end first with the demand of PM's resignation and then threat of public agitations and countrywide blockade if the prime minister failed to present himself for the accountability. Both were taken lightly by the incumbent perhaps, in overconfidence . Hereafter started a long drawn "Battle of Panama" encapsulating agitations and later a year long litigation which culminated in Nawaz Sharif's disqualification and dismissal from the office of premier. 

To level the score, PMLN dragged Imran Khan in a case which was equally as funny and was the defence put up by Nawaz Sharif in 'Panama Leaks' case.
But Imran Khan and Nawaz Sharif are poles apart. Imran Khan came up with a pile of documented evidences and complete money trail of his properties justifying all his taxes paid and the source of income over the decades from the time when he even had not entered into political realm.
Although he has never held any public office in any capacity yet instead of presenting handwritten chits of some far off and high flying friends or partners (in crime), he opted to satisfy the highest court of the land and has been "Alhamdulillah" acquitted with flying colors.

This is the difference between Imran Khan and all the Pakistani's, for once, need to consider next time when they go to polling stations
